Job Description

Position Overview:

Ultimate Staffing Services is actively seeking a skilled Lab Technician for a long-term temporary assignment with the potential for permanent placement. This opportunity is based fully onsite in Warwick, Rhode Island, offering a flexible start time of 7, 8, or 9 AM with corresponding end times, allowing for 8-hour shifts. Overtime and weekend work are available if desired. The position requires a background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities:

Technical Support

  • Support the Applications Engineering team with PCB assembly, modification, and rework of ICs and surface-mount components (SMT).
  • Perform precision soldering, de-soldering, and replacement of electronic components on prototype and production boards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose board-level issues related to power-up failures, soldering defects, component failures, and assembly problems.
  • Assist engineers with board bring-up, testing, debugging, and validation activities.
  • Conduct basic electrical measurements and data collection using laboratory test equipment.

Lab Management

  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring equipment availability and readiness.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including test equipment, tools, consumables, and electronic components.
  • Coordinate procurement and ordering of new laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and tracking of laboratory instruments.
  • Develop and enforce laboratory safety procedures and best practices.
  • Drive and maintain 5S initiatives to ensure a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
  • Support ESD compliance and proper handling of sensitive electronic devices.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Good understanding of passive components, semiconductors, power devices, and basic analog/digital circuits.
  • Experience using electronic test and measurement equipment, including Digital Multimeters (DMM), Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Network Analyzers, and Power Supplies.
  • Hands-on experience with SMT soldering, rework, and board-level assembly.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electronic hardware.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and report generation.
  • Good organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting power electronics, DC-DC converters, or mixed-signal hardware development.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, Mentor Graphics, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of ESD control procedures and laboratory safety standards.
  • Experience with laboratory asset management and equipment calibration processes.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation.

Work Hours:

Monday to Friday, with flexibility for overtime and weekend work if desired.

Benefits:

$30 per hour, with the opportunity for overtime.
